“He’s just like Kobe Bryant, he’s just like Michael Jordan”: Grizzlies’ star Dillon Brooks hails Kyrie Irving despite jersey swap snub

Sometimes there are numerous situations throughout a game that may escape the players’ but not the fans’ notice. Kyrie Irving of the Dallas Mavericks and Dillon Brooks of the Memphis Grizzlies were playing against each other on Monday when Irving was humiliatingly observed refusing Brooks’ request to switch jerseys. Yet, Brooks had just been heard admiring Irving.

The Grizzlies defeated the Mavericks by a score of 112-108 in this game. After the game, a video surfaced in which Brooks attempted to exchange Irving his jersey for his, but Irving simply walked away from the outstretched arm and turned to the next member of the Grizzlies. After that, Brooks started to circle the court while holding two jerseys.

What answer did Dillon Brook make in regard to this circumstance?

By his response to this situation, Brooks has once more stolen the hearts of his million fans. Instead of praising Irving and declaring himself a fan, this small forward compared Kyrie’s skill level to that of Jordan and Kobe.

“I’m a fan of Kyrie, for everything he stands for, the way he uses his platform & his basketball game. When you’re growing up, you want to aspire to be able to do what he does. He’s just like Kobe. He’s just like Jordan.”

By complementing Irving’s playing techniques, also this Grizzlies star expressed his desire to be like Kyrie one day.

He plays the game at a different pace. He uses both hands. Midrange God. And that’s where I want to be at one day when I’ll be able to shoot the ball more.”

What did Kyrie Irving say in response to this viral Video?

The Mavericks star was subjected to harsh abuse on social media when this video clip went viral. Yet, this point guard said in a post-game press conference that he did not act intentionally and his thought process was just diverted.

‘I saw that after the game. I’ll probably get it next time. Probably next time. Not this time. I was really onto the next thing, thought process-wise,” Kyrie’s statement in the post-game conference.

Irving gave his all to the Mavericks’ 112-108 loss against the Grizzles on Monday, scoring 28 points, pulling down four rebounds, blocking two shots, and making one steal in 33 minutes.

Kyrie Irving averaged 26.9 points, 6.0 assists, 4.8 rebounds, and 1.4 steals per game in the 2020–21 NBA season. He scored a season-high 45 points against the Dallas Mavericks in a 113–109 loss.
