“I am. On record, I am”: Seahawks’ DeKaylin Metcalf claims to be the fastest player in NFL

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DeKaylin Metcalf has recently stirred up controversy in the NFL by boldly claiming the title of fastest player in the league.

Metcalf is a former four-star recruit from Oxford, Mississippi and the big-bodied vertical threat later decided to follow in the footsteps of his father Terrence Metcalf, an NFL and Ole Miss All-America offensive lineman, by entering the NFL draft.

Does DeKaylin Metcalf consider him the fastest player in the NFL?

During an appearance on “The Herd”, the show host Colin Cowherd asked the Seahawks’ WR DeKaylin Metcalf if he thinks of himself as the fastest player in the NFL.

Without lacking confidence, the 6’3”, 228 pounds replied, “I am. On record, I am.”

The veteran WR previously made the bold claim once again during a chat with TMZ Sports in February 2022. The reporter asked fans and pundits repeatedly to keep analyzing who is the faster player in the league between him and Tyreek Hill. DeKylin answered Tyreek was not putting much effort and he could beat Hill head-to-head in a footrace.

The 25-year-old ran a 4.33-second 40-yard dash at the 2019 NFL combine, just 0.04 seconds behind the 4.29-second time he ran at his 2016 pro day.

The reporter further asked if Metcalf considers himself to be the fastest man in the NFL and without any hesitation, DK declared himself as the best athlete at his position.

Both Metcalf and Tyreek took sly digs at each other previously over the statement “who would win in a race” and openly challenged and called out the other one for lacking speed.

Once Metcalf was asked if he could outrun “Cheetah,” the young star replied citing he has DK speed and none else possesses this.

“I got a different type of speed … There’s Cheetah speed and I got DK speed, and that’s just me”, he stated.

The NFL posted the veteran WR AJ Brown said he has $50K on Metcalf and Brown corrected it in the comments saying he only put down $5K, however, Tayreek responded to the $50 k claim by tweeting, ” “Put up 50K and the money goes to any charity you want if you win !! I DM you and you was scared. I got receipts.”

The debate of being the best at the position will never get old, however, as the NFL offseason progresses and teams prepare for the upcoming season, Metcalf’s claim of being the fastest player in the league and there is no denying that his speed and athleticism make him a force to be reckoned with on the field.
