“I never spoke to Red Bull”: Mercedes Toto Wolff rubbishes Mick Schumacher’s chances to jump ship to F1 rivals

Toto Wolff, the team principal of Mercedes, has strongly refuted the claim made by Helmut Marko, Red Bull advisor, stating that there was no meeting between the two competing teams concerning Mick Schumacher’s potential transfer to AlphaTauri.

Haas recently decided to release Schumacher, the talented young German driver, but Mercedes quickly intervened by extending an offer for him to join their team as a reserve driver. Toto had shared his aspiration to maintain the presence of the ‘Schumacher’ name in Formula 1 and expressed his belief that the 24-year-old German star deserved an opportunity to return to the racing grid.

Marko recently stirred up the situation by making sensational claims this month, suggesting that Wolff exerted pressure on the Red Bull team to provide Mick with another chance. Marko targeted the Mercedes team principal, implying that the Mercedes team was obstructing Schumacher’s future in the sport as they have personal ambitions with the German Driver.

“It was mentioned in a meeting,” Marko said.

Wolff, in response to Marko’s claims, has expressed skepticism regarding the underlying motives surrounding Schumacher’s future in Formula 1.

“I’m not even sure that we can facilitate because every time we speak highly of him, somebody feels the need to say something negative,” Wolff said.

Toto further added, “As a little aside, I never spoke to Red Bull leadership about giving Mick a place there the way it was said by Helmut.”

Schumacher recently had the opportunity to drive the W14 in a Pirelli 2024 tire test. Wolff believes a year away from Formula 1 could be beneficial for the German driver and heavily praises Schumachers’ potential.

“Wherever I can speak highly and praise Mick, that’s what I’m doing. But in the end, it’s every team’s authority to decide on the drivers,” he said.

After claiming victory in the Formula 2 Championship, Mick Schumacher successfully made his awaited Formula 1 debut with the Haas F1 Team in 2021.

Mick’s legendary surname carries immense expectations in the world of motorsports, his journey continues with the Mercedes team for the 2023 season, where he strives to establish his own legacy in motorsports.
