Is Dana White stopping Conor McGregor from going into the UFC octagon?

Ahead of his Hollywood debut in “Roadhouse,” Conor McGregor, the former UFC Double Champ, discussed his comeback in the octagon during an interview with TheMacLife. Conor expressed that he went through multiple fight camps anticipating a date but it “kept getting pushed back.”

Previously, McGregor starred as one of the main coaches on TUF 31 (The Ultimate Fighter), which aired in 2023. He was set to fight Michael Chandler, the other coach on TUF 31, at the end of the season, but the bout never took place. This raises the question: is Dana White responsible for Conor McGregor’s pushback?

Conor McGregor claims Dana White & UFC prevented his return

In an interview with TheMacLife, Conor McGregor expressed his willingness to make a comeback in the octagon after completing the PR tours for his film, “Roadhouse.” Conor mentioned that due to the shooting of the film and the associated travel, he had to pause his training.

“The Notorious” also mentioned that he went through two separate fight camps, one in Cannes, France, and the other in Dubai, training with world champions. However, the dates he was expecting kept getting pushed back, first in December, and then in January, which led to Conor taking it easier.

Conor expressed that after testing his physical endurance through his workouts, he plans to come back in classic “McGregor fashion.” “I need to regroup, get myself back in there, and then when a date comes, I’m ready to rock,” concluded McGregor.

What’s Dana White’s plan for Conor Mcgregor return?

President of the UFC, Dana White, confirmed in the latter half of 2023 that Conor McGregor would be making his return to the UFC in 2024, but never revealed any dates or the weight class in which Conor would compete.

On the other hand, Conor McGregor tweeted on X (formerly Twitter) in December, stating that he would be willing to fight Michael Chandler at 185 pounds at International Fight Week on June 29 in Las Vegas.

Whereas Dana White only confirmed McGregor would be fighting “this year.” Conor last fought at UFC 264 in July 2021, when he lost to Dustin Poirier by TKO, when Conor broke his tibialis mid fight. This was also the third time that Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor had met inside the Octagon. Conor’s last win inside of the Octagon was in January 2020 over Donald Cerrone.
