Is Erling Haaland moving to Real Madrid? Examining the scenario

Erling Haaland has lit the world on fire within his first 18 months of arrival at Manchester City, recently winning the “Best Men’s Player” at the 2023 Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai, surpassing Cristiano Ronaldo in the process.

Despite starting the current season impressively, Haaland faced a setback with a foot injury in December, sidelining him for a little over a month. While the player has made his way back on the field, there are some unsettling rumors connecting Haaland to a possible move to the Spanish capital.

Is Erling Haaland leaving Manchester City?

Although it’s not entirely impossible for Erling Haaland to decide to leave Manchester City for Real Madrid, such a move would certainly be challenging and likely involve a substantial financial investment.

Erling Haaland had a remarkable debut season with Manchester City, clinching the Treble, securing a second-place finish in both the Ballon d’Or and FIFA Best awards, trailing only behind Lionel Messi. Additionally, he set a record for scoring the most goals in a Premier League campaign. Haaland’s exceptional success at City has elevated him to the status of one of the best players in Europe. Given that he is only 23 years old as of now, Haaland’s continued growth is highly anticipated.

In such a case, it wouldn’t be unreasonable to consider the possibility of Real Madrid making a move for the Norwegian striker, especially considering their unsuccessful pursuit of Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain. If Erling Haaland were to join the Spanish capital, he would reunite with his former Borussia Dortmund teammate Jude Bellingham, who is currently making significant contributions to Los Blancos in the league.

The move, however, remains highly unlikely given the transfer fee a player of Erling Haaland’s caliber would command. Also, signing Haaland would go against Real’s strategy of securing the best young talents instead of cherry-picking the best players of the world.

In fact, Real Madrid have already signed Brazilian wonderkid Endrick from Palmeiras for a reported fee of 60 million euros, so to assume they would pounce for Haaland is a little too farfetched.

But perhaps the biggest obstruction to Erling Haaland’s would be Carlo Ancelotti’s continued emphasis on Real not signing any players until they absolutely need to.

Haaland returns to action after over a month’s absence

Erling Haaland returned to action last night from his injury in Manchester City’s 3-1 victory over Burnley as World Cup winner Julian Alvarez scored twice on his 24th birthday. Haaland came on as a substitute in the second half.

Manchester City, who were without key players Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland, now have both players back and available for selection against Brentford. The team currently sits 5 points behind league leaders Liverpool, who secured a 4-1 victory against Chelsea in Jurgen Klopp’s first match after announcing his departure from the club at the end of the season.
