LeBron James to walk away from $100 million payday for the sake of son Bronny James

LeBron James recently drew a lot of attention when he said he wanted to play with his son, Bronny, in the NBA. It made headlines as he spoke to The Athletic in February’22 about a third stint with hometown team Cleaveland Cavaliers.

He said, “My last year will be played with my son. Wherever Bronny is at, that’s where I’ll be. I would do whatever it takes to play with my son for one year. It’s not about the money at that point.

In a January feature, he reiterated the same emotions, albeit with different words. He genuinely wanted to be with his young man on the court, as he brought in the example of 1990 star father-son duo, Ken Griffey Sr. and Ken Griffey Jr.

LeBron James hints Lakers exit

In 2022, James signed a contract with the LA Lakers that bound him for the 2023-2024 season but allowed player option in the 2024-25 season. The extension contract of 2 years worth $97.1 million will take effect next season. The contract, however, does not mention anything regarding a no-trade clause.

After the Laker’s loss against the Nuggets, LeBron James’ career looked like a big question mark standing right in front of the legend. He was quoted saying in a press meet after, “I’ve got a lot to think about, to be honest, and just with me personally going forward with the game of basketball, I’ve got a lot to think about.

LeBron’s desire to share court with son

Speculations are rife about Bronny being drafted in the 2024 off-season, and a likely outcome would be to trade James to wherever his son gets chosen.

Although Bronny James has not divulged too many details about his professional ambitions to the media, King James’ point guard son shared his dreams of being on the court with Sports Illustrated in 2022.

The young star said in the feature on the James family, “I’ll see what happens,” he said. “I’m going to be playing basketball. If [I] go down that path, then it is what it is.

LeBron James and his son’s team on the court would be an amazing sight and a delight for sports lovers and critics alike. It would be interesting to finally know if the history of the Ken Griffey’s is repeated.
