Amid reports that Jurgen Klopp could leave Liverpool, the German manager firmly shut down those rumors. The rumors started amid the Reds’ recent awful performances on the pitch.
Many believe the squad needs a major overhaul with a lot of old veterans still on the team. A common sentiment is Jurgen Klopp has reached his potential with the team and may need to leave to allow the team to grow. Others believe the current season’s toll and the media and fan pressure on the manager have caused Klopp to become tired.
However, Klopp believes he is the manager to turn around their bad results. Klopp said ahead of the Merseyside derby against Everton on Monday, “I have too much responsibility here (to leave), and I want it (the responsibility). I want to sort it out again.
“Yes, it is a difficult time, I don’t enjoy it. But if people believe in me, then we have to go through this together because then when we come out we will have great times again. If we could show in this difficult time at this club – especially here because it is so special, because we believe in everything – then we will get through this.”
Klopp then admitted that he knew the season would be a difficult one due to the high expectations they had set in the previous season, where they fought for a quadruple win.
Klopp said, “I am completely here, I am completely in this, 100 percent committed. Maybe the difficult times are a bit too long already, maybe for me as well, but I knew it would be a difficult season (after last year’s quadruple chase).
“If we win I feel like I was part of it but if we lose I feel 100 percent responsible. I was always like this in my life, so you can imagine how big the responsibility is at the moment, and how I feel now. And we will do absolutely everything to get through this and prepare for a very positive future again.
“I am really emotional after we lost the game, but apart from that I am completely clear and can do the job I always did. And I am experienced enough to know we can get through this.”
The Reds are now 10th in the Premier League. Their performances have been less than par with their competitors. Injuries and out-of-form players like Mohammed Salah have been pulling back the team from qualifying for European competitions. New signings Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo have also failed to put a meaningful impact on the pitch.
Liverpool will now face Merseyside rivals Everton on Monday night. Klopp will hope the team turns out a good result against their local rivals.
