Months after blockbuster trade, Warriors’ Draymond Green confesses dislike for Chris Paul

The Golden State Warriors surprised the NBA last month by landing Chris Paul from the Washington Wizards in a blockbuster trade. The deal garnered wide attention as they sent Jordan Poole to Washington in return for Chris Paul.

Given CP3’s stellar repertoire, he would make a great asset for any franchise in the NBA. However, it should also be noted that the veteran is way past his heydays and is currently at the twilight of his career. When asked to comment on the unexpected signing, Warriors forward Draymond Green had some honest words to offer.

Draymond Green’s unfiltered disapproval of Chris Paul’s arrival

In an interview after the signing of Chris Paul, Draymond Green did not hesitate to express his feelings about Chris Paul. He was asked to rate the transfer that eventually saw CP3 become a Warrior.

“[On a scale of] 1 to 10, what did you feel about [Chris Paul]?”, the interviewer asked.

In his response Green said, “11! I hated him. 11. But I think that’s also a sign of respect. And I’ll be honest, I wasn’t the most thrilled initially… I definitely didn’t say no.”

Needless to say Draymond Green and Chris Paul had been on the opposite sides for the most of their career, and Green wasn’t initially happy when the news of the transfer broke. They had been involved in multiple heated moments throughout their careers, and it is understandable if he does not foster a very friendly relationship with Chris Paul.

But clearly Draymond has a lot of respect for the fellow veteran and rated CP3 at 11 out the scale of 1-10. Warriors fans are in a for a treat in the coming season as they can see big names like Stephen Curry, Chris Paul, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green teaming up on the courts.

Chris Paul joined Warriors in trade for Jordan Poole

The Golden State Warriors have just wrapped up a deal to bring in All-Star guard Chris Paul from the Washington Wizards. In return, they sent guard Jordan Poole to the Wizards. This trade came after Paul was moved from the Phoenix Suns to the Wizards in exchange for guard Bradley Beal, just hours before the 2023 NBA Draft.

Jordan Poole was part of the Warriors’ championship winning team in 2022. He was picked by Golden State as the 28th overall selection in the 2019 NBA Draft, and since then, the 24-year-old guard has steadily improved.  In the midst of a complete rebuild, Poole joins the Washington Wizards. During the 2022-23 season, Poole averaged a career-best 20.4 points, along with 2.7 rebounds and 4.5 assists, setting personal records.

Chris Paul, the experienced point guard, had his title aspirations dashed twice by the Warriors in the past. This trade might also give the Warriors more financial flexibility. Poole has signed a four-year, $128 million deal, while Paul is set to earn about $31 million next season with no guarantees beyond that. This trade deal is expected to bring great results to both teams. Do you want to contribute to this story? Leave it in the comment box below.
