Neymar to stay at PSG following Lionel Messi’s departure? explaining Brazilian star’s contact with the French giant

PSG fans were in dreamland when they heard the news about the Argentine magic man gracing the city of Paris. The excitement and anticipation were to watch the “MNM” trio perform magic in the Parc des Princes. There were a lot of question marks when Lionel Messi left his home club FC Barcelona to move to PSG and reunite with his former teammate Neymar Jr.

In 2017, the French giants signed the former Barcelona superstar for a record $244 million from the Catalan club. With uncertainty about Kylian Mbappe‘s future in the city of Paris, and Neymar’s future being uncertain, multiple recent reports indicate that the possibility of the Brazilian superstar leaving is highly unlikely.

What can we understand from PSG’s contract with Neymar?

The departure of the Argentina’s number 10 sent shockwaves across Europe and little did they know it was just the beginning. A few weeks later, PSG’s number 7, Kylian Mbappe announced that he will not be renewing his contract which is due to end in 2024. In contrast to Les Bleus captain, Neymar signed a contract extension with the French giants till 2027.

According to multiple reports, the 31-year-old is set to earn $39 million per season under his new deal which was signed in the summer of 2021. Despite interest from several European clubs like Chelsea and Juventus, the Brazilian superstar has set his sights on finishing his career at the Parc des Princes. Talking about his contract extension, the versatile attacker said “Here I have grown as a person, as a human being, and as a player, too. So I’m very happy to extend and I hope to win many more trophies here.

Neymar reunites with new PSG manager Luis Enrique

Despite having a team of superstars, the French powerhouses are yet to win the coveted Champions League. The departure of Christophe Galtier under exceptional circumstances has opened the door for Spanish coach Luis Enrique to lead the Parisian club toward triumph. The former Barcelona manager said his goodbyes to the Spanish national team after a heartbreaking loss to Morocco in the World Cup round of 16.

The Spanish coach had set his sights on the city of Paris, despite being heavily linked with Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur. During this stint with the Catalan club, the 53-year-old manager tasted success by winning two La Liga titles and a Champions League, of which Neymar was a crucial part. The PSG supporters hope that the reunion between the Spanish coach and Neymar will be the catalyst behind their quest for Champions League glory.

Kylian Mbappe’s departure seems likely, and Lionel Messi’s exit has created uncertainty within the club’s hierarchy. The new arrivals of Marco Asensio, Milan Skriniar, and Manuel Ugarte have spread optimism among the supporters but the big question is whether Luis Enrique can lead the club to ultimate glory, unlike his predecessors. Let us know your thoughts.
