Oleksandr Usyk vs Daniel Dubois: WBA have announced 75/25 purse split for world heavyweight title bout

WBA announced a few hours ago that the fight purse bid of Oleksandr Usyk vs Daniel Dubois is set to take place on May 25th at Houston. The minimum distribution for the fight purse is $1 million and the split is favoured 75-25 towards the unified heavyweight champion.

The commission made this decision and informed the respective promoters because both parties initially did not agree to a deal. As the promoters of Usyk and Dubois were unable to make a deal by the deadline of May 2nd, WBA formally scheduled a purse bid.

According to the report of Dan Rafael, “The minimum bid is $1 million with a non-refundable promoter participation fee of $5,000. The split of the money of the winning bid will be 75 percent for Usyk and 25 percent for Dubois.”

Daniel Dubois became the mandatory challenger for Oleksandr Usyk after the Ukrainian unified heavyweight champion’s highly anticipated fight against Tyson Fury fell through. It would be interesting to see the final amount of the purse as it might play a big role for Usyk in negotiating a split in the future against The Gypsy King.

Who will replace Daniel Dubois if he pulls out of the fight against Oleksandr Usyk?

After becoming the WBA regular champion last year, Daniel Dubois made his first title defense against Kevin Larena in December 2022. Following this win, he will now face Oleksandr Usyk for the unified heavyweight titles. However, there are serious doubts regarding his fitness.

Because Dubois withstood three knockdowns in his last fight and suffered a knee injury in the first round. As per his doctor’s reports, the heavyweight boxer has recovered from his injuries. But in case Dynamite reinjures himself or pulls out from this bout then Deontay Wilder will replace him as per who is #1 as per the WBA rankings.

Oleksandr Usyk celebrates his win

It is needless to say that a fight between Usyk and Wilder will excite the fans a lot more than a matchup between Usyk and Dubois. Because Deontay Wilder is more popular and can be a bigger threat to the Ukrainian due to his one-punch knockout power.
