Packers boss expects learning curve for Jordan Love’s first year as starter on post-Aaron Rodgers roster: “There will be ups and downs this year”

The New York Jets are on cloud nine after acquiring one of the most elite quarterbacks Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers have nothing but to prepare the promising youngster Jordan Love as he steps into the spotlight as the Green Bay Green Bay’s starter in the upcoming season.

As the torch now passes to Jordan, the Packers fans might be scratching their head thinking of the new era without their long-time favorite signal-caller Rodgers, however, the Green Bay front office remains optimistic about the team’s former first-round pick’s talent and believes the support system surrounding him will lead to a successful transition in the league.

Mark Murphy weighs in on Jordan Love’s first year

The Packers president Mark Murphy recently answered some questions from fans in a monthly post on the franchise’s official website. He shared the reason behind having confidence in Love in response to the question and reminded the fans that the QB might not perform according to expectations.

“With regard to Jordan, I would tell our fans to remember that this will be his first year as a starter and that there will be a learning curve.”

Jordan Love

A-Rod had the chance to explore his abilities while playing behind the NFL icon Brett Favre, throwing 59 passes throughout his first three seasons and eventually taking over Brett’s position to be Green Bay’s QB1. Similarly, Love also learned while playing alongside the three-time MVP and is set to become a new starter in the absence of Rodgers.

Murphy has the equation in mind and thinks that the signal-caller is counting times to make his mark in the NFL.

“That said, though, Jordan has benefited greatly by playing behind Aaron Rodgers for the last three years (much like Aaron learned from watching Brett Favre). Having watched him in practice the past three years, I have seen significant growth in Jordan (particularly in his confidence) and think he is ready to play.”

Jordan’s presence in the field was very limited, however, the Packers’ long-time President is impressed with his performance as a backup QB against the NFC champion Philadelphia Eagles in 2022.

“Also, he has benefited greatly by taking most of the snaps with the first-team offense in the last two offseasons, as well as in preseason games the last two years. Although it was very limited, his play in the Eagles game last year was very encouraging.”

Aaron Rodgers

How long have the Packers had Jordan Love?

The former Utah State quarterback headed to the NFL after getting selected by the Packers in the first round with the No. 26 overall in the 2020 NFL Draft and had to sit behind Aaron for the last year before getting the chance to be a starter in the upcoming season.

He completed 60.2% of passes for 606 yards on 7.3 yards per pass, three touchdowns as well as three interceptions and Murphy heaped on praise for the 24-year-old player, saying the QB never lost hope despite spending the past seasons as Rodgers’ understudy and continued to work hard to make his name inked as a starter.

“I’ve also been very impressed with how Jordan has handled himself over the past three years. He never complained and continued to work hard to improve his game. Most recently, I have seen Jordan step forward as a leader. There will be ups and downs this year, but it will be exciting, and we’re confident in Jordan.”

Jordan Love

As the Packers gear up for the start of the season without their long-time quarterback, Love might face a burden of expectations from fans. However, the team’s constant support to navigate the learning curve successfully will definitely shield the young star.

Will Jordan Love be able to live up to the expectations? Or will he exceed the expectations to become one of the most elite quarterbacks of the NFL?
