The quarterback left the pitch hobbling during the second half of the playoff game. Later, the MRI diagnosed it as a high ankle sprain, which didn’t pose any threat to the AFC championship game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Furthermore, a negative x-ray result allowed the star to play for the Chiefs in their fifth game against the Bengals at Arrowhead Stadium, which resulted in a win for the host.

The Chiefs took a risk by playing their crucial player in the high-voltage game despite his existing minor ankle sprain. Prior to the game, the two opponents had already fought virtually, raising the temperature. The 2019 Super Bowl champion threw for 5250 yards on an average of 8.1 yards per attempt, with 41 touchdowns and 12 interceptions this season. His standout performance propelled the Chiefs to their third Super Bowl ring in franchise history.

After two weeks, the Chiefs will face the flying Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl. In the meantime, Mahomes would be expected to be fully fit for the Super Bowl. He is already one step ahead in the MVP competition; another Mahomes show will ensure this honor for the second time.
