Following winning six Super Bowl titles in two decades, the New England Patriots’ former legendary quarterback Tom Brady’s decision to end his journey with the team raised many fans’ eyebrows, however, the QB has always demonstrated unwavering loyalty and love for Bill Belichick’s team over the period.
The Patriots owner Robert Kraft recently shared an intriguing insight into the strong bond between the franchise and Brady revealing when the Patriots approached Brady to honor him for his illustrious career, TB12 readily accepted the invitation.
Tom Brady accepts Patriots’ honor with gratitude
The ex-Patriots QB was invited to return to New England for the Patriots season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, Sept. 10, and speaking with the New York Post, Kraft said the 45-year-old star immediately accepted the honor.
“When I made him the offer he accepted right away. I mean, the demand for tickets for that game is unbelievable, so we look forward to honoring him.”
New England’s owner said he knew Brady still had the franchise in his heart and revealed the initiative was planned to let the New England fans get an opportunity to honor the player who had amassed six Lombardi trophies for them in two decades.
“We always knew he was a Patriot at heart and we wanted him back here. We want our fans to be able to recognize everything he did for us and how special he is.”
Robert said seeing Brady’s career from a young star to the future Hall of Fame quarterback has been an absolute pleasure for him.
“Tom has been such a special part of my life for the last (23 or 24 years). Twenty years with us and, you know, seeing him grow from a young man right out of college and evolve in relationships where he had, three children.”
Why did Brady retire from the Patriots?
After being selected 199th overall by the Patriots in the sixth round of the 2000 NFL Draft, the California Cool spent 20 seasons under Belichick’s guidance and established himself as a formidable force in the squad from 2001 to 2019. But what did force Tom Brady to leave his beloved team?
Reportedly, the ex-NFL star demanded a multi-year contract that would allow him to retire with the Patriots, albeit the Patriots HC was not ready to grant a golden parachute-style contract to his long-time quarterback.
Besides monetary issues, Tom Terrific also earlier revealed his disappointment for not getting much-needed appreciation from his beloved team as the football prodigy answered cryptically “I plead the fifth” in 2018 when asked if he got praise from Belichick.
However, Brady‘s connection to the New England squad and its fans remains strong, further solidifying his status as a true legend. As the football world eagerly awaits the day of the ceremony, fans will be able to celebrate the enduring legacy of the undisputed NFL GOAT’s time in New England.
