As the regular season comes to an end, many players will consider signing a new deal with a new franchise or signing a contract extension. These trades can change the course of the league as they help both the player and the franchise get in sync and produce for the team.
The Los Angeles Clippers forward, Paul George, is entering free agency this summer, and many think that he will not sign a contract extension with his current team and move towards a different destination after this season.
What’s next for Clippers SG Paul George?
The LA Clippers believe that Paul George will sign a contract extension after Kawhi signed one back in January. But it is not certain that he will re-sign with the Clippers this summer, as he can decline the $48.8 million contract for the 2024–25 season.
Brian Windhorst said, “I think the league believes that Paul George wants to remain a Clipper, and there would be concern in the league about recruiting Paul George — especially if you had to give away players to open up space… My informed speculation is that, eventually, Paul will agree to a deal with the Clippers. It may not be for the full max, but it may be for more than what the Clippers have been offering.”
Paul George’s move to 76ers rumors heating up
Many franchises have their eyes on the All-Star forward becoming a free agent so they can persuade him. One of the prime destinations for him is the Philadelphia 76ers. In a report by Keith Pompey, he mentioned that the 76ers desire to sign PG13 as they can make space for him this summer to pair PG with Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey.
This Heat could work in favor of George, as this might help him get a maximum contract to re-sign with the Clippers. The Clippers are not willing to give PG a similar contract to that of Leonard, according to Pompey’s sources, as the Clippers won’t be able to give both PG and James Harden a max contract.
George’s agent is still trying to get him a max contract deal from other franchises as well, but it depends on whether he plans to get a long-term contract and also if the franchise is willing to compete for the title instead of just rebuilding.
