Qatar demands “all possible means” to secure Lionel Messi’s future at PSG amidst Barcelona’s hopeful return talks

Qatar Sports Investments, the owners of Ligue 1 club Paris Saint-Germain, reportedly demanded that the club do “all possible means” to sign seven-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi.

The Argentinian superstar’s current contract is expiring this June. With no contract extensions on paper yet, Messi will be a free agent, open to any kind of negotiation from any club in the world.

With the current World Champion’s future with PSG insecure, the owners have taken matters into their own hands and ordered the Parisian club to negotiate a contract extension with Messi by all possible means.

According to the Mundo Deportivo report, this was the owner’s message to PSG:

“From Doha, the capital of Qatar, where those who really rule at PSG reside, they have given orders to Al-Khelaifi, the president of the Parisian club, to tie up Messi’s extension by all possible means.”

Will Lionel Messi himself want to play for PSG for another year?

Despite orders from the owners, it has not yet been determined whether Lionel Messi himself would want to continue playing for Les Parisiens. Messi reportedly has often fallen out with teammates like Neymar and Kylian Mbappe, and in recent times, he was even booed by fans in a home crowd.

The French club brought in the 35-year-old FC Barcelona legend in the hopes of winning the Champions League. However, they were unsuccessful in 2021-22 and the current season. Messi’s performance for PSG wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t up to par with his usual standards and abilities, either.

There were speculations that Messi had reached a verbal agreement with the PSG board for his contract extensions. But, things have taken quite significant turns since then.

In recent times, he has been heavily linked with a fairytale return to his former club, FC Barcelona. He rose to fame in the club in his teens and became the club’s legend after scoring 672 goals and winning every possible trophy with the club.

Barcelona has reportedly offered Messi a unique 200 million euro deal, given their current financial situation. Messi hasn’t responded to it as of yet.

Also, the avid rumors of multiple offers from clubs like Al-Hilal and Inter Miami don’t make it any easier for the Parisians to negotiate a deal with the seven times Ballon d’Or winners. It will all remain uncertain until Messi himself opens up about his potential next destination.
