Lionel Messi’s PSG future uncertain as David Beckham’s Inter Miami vow to bring him as their “number one priority”

There is much uncertainty about Lionel Messi staying at Paris Saint Germain. Reports from France suggest that the Argentine captain is closer to leaving than staying. Amid all this, Inter Miami seems to be one of the most likely destinations for Messi.

Last week Messi and PSG crashed out of the Champions League when they were knocked out 3-0 aggregate by Bayern Munich. This has now intensified the rumors of Messi’s exit. His current contract with the Parisians expires this summer, and a contract extension is yet to be agreed upon. After the World Cup victory by Messi and Argentina, he had a verbal agreement with PSG. But apparently, he has had a change of heart and is now looking to move on from Paris.

Is Lionel Messi leaving PSG? Latest update on star's contract and rumored Barcelona return | Sporting News Malaysia

The most likely destinations seem to be Barcelona and Inter Miami in Major League Soccer. An emotional return to childhood club Barcelona is reported, but the Spanish club’s financial condition may not allow that. A move to Inter Miami seems plausible. The MLS club is co-owned by David Beckham, former English soccer superstar and global fashion icon.

French media L’Equipe has revealed that the Miami-based club knows the value Messi will bring to US football and MLS and is actively doing everything to get his signature.

What did French media L’Equipe say about Lionel Messi?

The exact words of the French paper were, “He has clearly become the number one priority of Jorge Mas, the main owner of Inter Miami.”

“The first talks date back to June 2021, before Messi signed for PSG. Since then, talks have resumed and Jorge Mas spent a lot of time with Messi’s entourage during the World Cup in Qatar in December.”

To bring Messi, they will have to make a very attractive financial offer to him. MLS rules are flexible and while a big salary won’t be sufficient, the club could include real estate around the club’s brand-new stadium and many sponsorship deals.

Messi has so far been having a great season for PSG even though they are out of the Champions League. He has 13 goals and 13 assists in Ligue 1 this season. He also reached 300 club assists this season and won FIFA’s The Best award as well.

Where do you think Lionel Messi will end up next season? Will we see him back to the blue and red of Barcelona or the pink of Miami? Or will he stay in Paris? Let us know your opinion in the comments!
