Ravens’ Mark Andrews heroically saves woman’s life during mid-flight medical emergency

The Ravens NFL season is now over but their TE Mark Andrews has been all over the headlines for his off-court heroics. Andrews recently garnered widespread acclaim for his timely intervention during a Southwest Airlines flight.

While on the flight, Andrews assisted in saving the life of a fellow passenger experiencing a medical emergency.

Mark Andrews saves woman’s life mid-flight

Reportedly, Mark Andrews was on a flight from Baltimore to Phoenix when a woman suffered a medical emergency and the TE stepped forward to save her life.

The incident occurred on Thursday morning and the details were shared by a Twitter user Springs who was on the same flight. In a Zoom meeting, he shared the details of how Andrews helped the medical staff save the life of the woman.

“Once this happened. It was in the middle of the plane. Everybody was alert.”

He explained the condition of the woman was critical and her heartbeat was very low.

“I hear everything,” Springs said. “I heard how low her heart rate was. We’re talking 35-40 beats a minute. Her pulse was extremely weak at one point she needed auxiliary oxygen.”

The Baltimore native further shared that a nurse and a doctor came to help the woman but at the same time the TE also came forward and he gave them his diabetic test kit.

“Mark pipes up,” Springs said. “Well, first of all, I didn’t even know it was Mark. I had no idea he was sitting next to me… he basically says, ‘Do you know, could her blood sugar could be low? I have a diabetic test kit.'”

After that Mark Andrews also showed the doctor and the nurse how to use that kit. The TE is a Type 1 diabetic therefore he always carries this kit with him. Andrews was young when he was diagnosed with diabetes and he has been very open about it.

“I’m not scared to show people that I am a Type 1 diabetic,” the TE had once said in an interview. “I’m going to wear it on my sleeve.”

Fortunately, this approach helped save the life of a woman. Springs shared that when the medical staff realized that her blood sugar level was low they immediately gave her orange juice and she started feeling better.

“It was touch and go there,” Springs said. “This could’ve been a very different story depending on the outcome. Obviously, I’m very relieved, very thrilled she’s okay.”

He shared that after the flight landed Mark Andrews left quietly and medical personnel were there to offer the woman further assistance. Springs appreciated Mark and called him a hero for his act.

Mark Andrews shares official statement on the flight incident

After the incident went viral and everyone got to know about this heroic act of Mark Andrews, the TE also released an official statement. He credited the flight attendants, the nurse, and the doctor for saving the life of the woman.

“In addition to the fast-acting flight attendants, the real heroes are the nurse and doctor who also happened to be on the plane. Thankfully, they were able to provide the woman the quick assistance she needed.”

Indeed, they all came together to save the woman’s life, but fans greatly appreciated the TE for stepping forward and giving his kit to the doctor. Without his intervention, no one would have realized the real cause of the woman’s heartbeat getting low. But Andrews’ observation was right and helped save her life.

Mark Andrews himself grappled with multiple injuries this season. He suffered a left ankle injury because of which he had to miss multiple games. Then he returned for the AFC Championship game against the Chiefs but unfortunately, his team lost.

The Baltimore Ravens and Mark Andrews are not going to the Super Bowl LVIII and will be preparing for the next season.
