Rolly Romero claims Ismael Barroso punches feel like “damn sledgehammer” compared to Gervonta Davis

After suffering a brutal knockout loss to Gervonta Davis in his last bout, Rolly Romero moved up a weight class to compete against Ismael Barroso for the vacant 140-pound title. Everyone was expecting Rolly to cruise through and outclass the 40-year-old junior welterweight boxer in this matchup.

However, Barroso put on a terrific show and came close to finishing the fight as he dropped Romero in the third round. But unfortunately, Ismael lost the fight after the referee controversially decided to stop the bout in the ninth round. Until that point, the 40-year-old veteran boxer was leading on all three judges’ scorecards.

It is needless to say that Rolly got away with a dubious stoppage and it was a tough bout for him. Following his victory, the junior welterweight champion gave some of his time interview with Fight Hub Tv. While having a conversation, the interviewer asked Romero about Ismael’s power. Surprisingly, Rolando claimed that Barroso’s punches had more power than Gervonta Davis’s.

“Way harder. With this dude, I felt every punch. In my arms, everything. With that dude, it’s like you just don’t wanna make mistakes. “Bro, I’m not exaggerating. He hits a million times harder [than Davis]. The tank has that like quickness, where he catches you with a blind shot. This dude has a boom kinda power, where it’s like he’s hitting you with a damn sledgehammer.”

Davis brutally slept Romero in their matchup last year. Thus Rolly’s comments about Ismael having more power than Tank sound intriguing. But it could be seen during the fight yesterday that Rolando took a very cautious approach.

Moreover, It was very evident that Rolly Romero didn’t want to get caught with anything powerful from Ismael and this was the major reason behind him throwing very few punches and keeping a safe distance throughout the nine rounds.

Rolly Romero wants to fight Ryan Garcia next

Just like every fight fan, Rolly Romero didn’t want the fight to end in that manner. However, he believes that he would have won the matchup against Ismael Barroso either way. After winning the 140-pound vacant junior welterweight title, Rolando called out Ryan Garcia for a fight.

Rolly Romero and Ryan Garcia

“All I know is that fight is the biggest fight in boxing, me and Ryan. The winner between me and Ryan gets Gervonta Davis. We’re going to do it the old-school way.”

His roadmap is to defeat Ryan Garcia and then face Gervonta Davis in a rematch. For fight fans, it may sound interesting as they are big names, but Tank will most likely not accept a rematch offer. Because he won against both opponents convincingly and wants to move on from those rivalries. Besides, one cannot guarantee that it may get the same amount of views and PPV buys.
