Sean O’Malley to skip possible Ryan Garcia and Gervonta Davis bout, names ex-champion as potential next opponent

Sean “Suga” O’Malley has been a prominent name in the UFC for a while now. After an impressive title defense against Marlon “Chito” Vera for the UFC Bantamweight Championship belt at UFC 299, securing a win by unanimous decision, Sean now ranks at #6 in the UFC men’s pound-for-pound rankings as of March 12th, 2024.

Before his title defense, O’Malley had been considering entering the massive boxing industry and challenging top pound-for-pound boxers Ryan Garcia and Gervonta Davis, who are immensely famous and talented in the sport. However, Sean is deciding to go for a bigger and tougher opponent, disregarding his initial potential matchups.

Sean O’Malley talks on potential bout against Ryan Garcia

Sean O’Malley had been expressing his aspirations to compete in the boxing industry, drawing the attention of Ryan Garcia. Ryan advised Sean to “Stay in his lane” and stick to the UFC, in a rather mocking tone.

Tension was rising as they went back and forth on social media. Garcia had been expressing his desire to up the stakes and fight Sean in the UFC, stating recently on social media, “I’d fight Sean O’Malley in the UFC, that’s it…”.

With his upcoming bout against David Haney on April 20, the fans have been concerned with Garcia’s posts on social media and his mental health. However, Sean doesn’t think that an MMA matchup between them is possible. Instead, he is eyeing bigger fish at the moment.

Sean O’Malley wants to challenge Floyd Mayweather

Instead of starting with fighting Garcia or Davis, Sean O’Malley’s gaze has turned towards one of the most famous names in the boxing industry, the man who also had fought and won against UFC Star Conor McGregor, while making good money. Sean believes that his talents are good enough to stand a chance against the ferocious Floyd “Money” Mayweather himself.

Mayweather is known for taking up every challenge thrown at him. He has fought plenty of YouTube boxers including the infamous KSI and Logan Paul. There’s a high chance that if O’Malley continues to push the idea of a fight with Floyd, it might just happen. Floyd, who retired with a record of 50 wins and no losses, is still in love with the sport and is fit and willing to fight against anyone who challenges him.
