Suns HC Monty Williams gives crucial update on Kevin Durant after injury rules him out of home debut vs Thunder

Phoenix Suns head coach Monty Williams gave an update on the status of NBA superstar Kevin Durant’s injury, emphasizing that the team will exercise caution and prioritize his safety in his recovery. The Suns currently have a solid fourth-place standing in the Western Conference with a 37-29 record and are unlikely to fall out of the Top 6.

The talented basketball player had sustained a left ankle sprain during warm-ups, ruling him out of the team’s first home game in Arizona against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday. Following the game, Durant was spotted wearing a walking boot, which heightened concerns over his future playing prospects.

Devin Booker, Durant’s teammate, expressed optimism about his quick recovery, stating that Kevin Durant would bounce back from the injury in no time. “He’s fine, it’s just a roll. We’ll get him right and he’ll have the debut another day.”

How Will Monty Williams and Phoenix Suns Approach Kevin Durant’s Recovery Process?

Even though Suns’ head coach Monty Williams expressed that he has no official word on the severity of Durant’s injury, he stressed that his health and well-being come first. In his words, “I think every team in the NBA is cautious just because there’s a care for the guys that are trying to win games and protect their livelihoods. So that’s always at the highest place on the list.”

The coach stated that they would wait to see how the athlete responds to treatment, and they might conduct additional imaging to ensure that everyone is on the same page. However, the Phoenix Suns won’t take any chances by rushing Durant’s return. As Williams recommended, they will allow him as much time as he needs to recuperate fully.

The Suns are unlikely to fall out of the top 6 in the western conference,  which means they now have the luxury of prioritizing Durant’s rehabilitation for the playoffs, where he will be an asset in their bid for a championship win. The team management understands the significance of Durant’s health in achieving this goal and will go to great lengths to ensure that he fully recovers before returning to the court.
