Transfer News: Manchester United unveil £60M CM Mason Mount from Chelsea

Manchester United have finally signed Mason Mount from Chelsea for a £60M price tag after weeks of negotiations.  In addition to Kalidou Koulibaly, Mateo Kovacic, Edouard Mendy, N’golo Kante, Kai Havertz, and Cesar Azpilicueta, Mason has also left Chelsea this summer.

Mason Mount was on the radar of Manchester United since before the season ended. The player also wanted to leave Chelsea and soon United entered into negotiations with the club. Though initially, both clubs failed to reach an agreement, they have now agreed on a £60M price tag.

Mason Mount to Manchester United contract details

After completing his medicals earlier today, United announced the signing on their official website. Mount himself gave a heartfelt message to Chelsea fans to say goodbye.

The whole deal is structured with a £55m initial fee. The rest £5m will be paid as add-ons depending on the player’s performance. Mount’s contract will last five years but will have the option to renew for one more. He will earn close to £5m per season.

Mount had only a year left on his Chelsea contract, and even though both the club and the player wanted an exit, the deal took some time. United had three initial bids rejected and even threatened to pull out of the deal.

After Chelsea asked for a crucial meeting, the two teams agreed on the aforementioned price. Mount will now take up the iconic no.7 shirt worn by past legends such as Cristiano Ronaldo and David Beckham.

Is the trio of Casemiro, Mount, and Bruno Fernandes enough to challenge for a title next season?

United won the Carabao Cup this season, but many still felt the performance was underwhelming. And so this season, the team will likely strive to win another major title and even challenge for the Premier League.

The Red Devil’s manager Erik Ten Haag wanted to reinforce his midfield with dynamic players. He wanted Mount to join as he seems to appreciate the player due to his qualities such as his versatility, pressing ability, and athletic prowess. United is rising as a team and will also play Champions League next season which also attracted Mount to the club.

With Casemiro who has reinforced the defensive midfield with his presence, and Bruno Fernandes who has already added an extra dimension to the attack, United has built a great midfield. Though the manager will have to still work on the proper system to let them thrive. He will probably have time for that as pre-season will soon be starting.
