Trevor Lawrence, Jaguars HC open to adding veteran pass rusher ahead of NFL 2023 season: “We’re always trying to improve”

The head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars Doug Pederson revealed the team’s mentality to strengthen its lineup as circumstances required it, despite the Jaguars adding both veteran and rookie players.

The Jaguars managed to establish themselves as one of the teams of the league in the previous season, finishing ninth with 357 yards per game while being ranked among the Top 10-15 teams in terms of yards.

Will the Jaguars add a veteran pass rusher?

The Jaguar’s head coach appears upbeat about the possibility of bringing in a seasoned pass rusher before the 2023 regular season. Pederson acknowledged that all of the teams’ rosters have already been fully stocked with the expected veteran and non-veteran players as the 2023 NFL draft has passed.

Even so, it appears that a lot of teams are still adding players, and they will likely act similarly to those franchises if they need to strengthen their roster or fill any open positions.

“We’re always trying to improve. Whether it’s schematically or positionally or personnel, we’re always looking. It’s something that we’ll take a look at, but every [NFL] roster is pretty much set at this stage of the game. It would have to be something that was pretty enticing to bring somebody onto your roster, which means you’d have to let somebody go. That’s a hard thing to do,” the head coach remarked.

The Jaguars updated their roster with some veteran and rookie players

The team Jaguars started their 2023 draft with the 24th overall pick and finished the draft with 13 overall selections. With numerous picks on Day 3, the Jaguars now have a large number of rookies vying for spots on a mostly unchanged roster.

Along with re-signing defensive end Roy Roberston-Harris, backup quarterback C.J. Beathard, and running back JaMycal Hasty, the team also added linebacker Willie Taylor III and kicker Brandon McManus to their roster.

Being almost unexpectedly crowned division champions in 2022, the Jaguars team demonstrated that they have the potential to win the Super Bowl as well. However, the team should still be mindful of its offensive line, as it appears to be a relatively weak part of the squad.
