“We can win a Super Bowl with him” Chargers GM Tom Telesco speaks out on new deal for Justin Herbert

The Los Angeles Chargers General Manager Tom Telesco spoke out about the team’s deal extension plan with the star quarterback Justin Herbert, expressing confidence in the young star’s ability to lead the team to a Super Bowl victory.

Herbert debuted in the league after being selected by the Chargers in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft and incredibly proved his critics wrong who predicted him to be a bust before the 2020 NFL Draft.

The Chargers young star made multiple records as a rookie player including becoming the only third player in NFL history to pass for at least 300 yards and rush for a touchdown in the first career game, the first rookie QB in the league’s history to throw for multiple touchdowns in back-to-back seven games and many more.

What did the Chargers’ GM say about the deal extension of Justin Herbert?

The Chargers GM Tom Telesco opened up to SiriusXM NFL Radio about the status update on their veteran QB Herbert’s extension citing he didn’t have an update on the 25-year-old contract as there’s a lot to go into it and the type and amount of the deals may impact future roster construction

“I don’t have an update on it,” Telesco said, via ProFootballTalk. “There’s a lot that will go into it, obviously, with these type of contracts and the amount of numbers that it’s going to be. It’s just a good problem to have to know you have a franchise quarterback that’s now moving into a veteran franchise quarterback. There are a lot of good things that come with that”, Telesco stated.

Reportedly, nine QBs currently make an annual average of at least $40 million with the Packers QB Aaron Rodgers leading by $50.261 million.

However, the Chargers’ GM didn’t seem bothered about the amount much, rather he cited the former Rookie of the Year and Offensive Rookie of the Year deserved an extension and the amount might be massive too.

“I’m not losing a lot of sleep over it. Yeah, I know the numbers are going to be big. He’s earned it, but we think we can win a Super Bowl with him. That’s a good problem to have. We’ll get it done at some point, and then we’ll go from there”, he further added.

The righty with the arm already established himself as one of the best players in the NFL as one of the former Denver Broncos players earlier mentioned he’s better than Hall of Famer Peyton Manning.

Fans are no doubt excited to see what the future holds for their promising young quarterback and their team.
