“You got a 16th standing with you in America” USWNT star Megan Rapione shows solidarity with Spanish women football players amid rift vs federation

Megan Rapinoe, a prominent player for the United States Women’s National Team and a model for SI Swimsuit, is a worldwide icon in terms of raising voices for the legitimate rights of women, who recently got the limelight for showing her support for the Spanish Women’s National Team in a post on Instagram on September 22.

Rapinoe’s social media post sparked the news of the mistreatment of some Spanish women players who boycotted their federation’s idea to cope with their manager for some explosive reasons.

Why did Megan Rapinoe solace the Spanish women players?

The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has received widespread criticism for how it handled an argument between the women players and their head coach Jorge Vilda of the Spanish senior squad and on Thursday, it was revealed that fifteen members of Spain’s national team had emailed the RFEF demanding that certain problems be fixed before they could rejoin the team.

According to several media reports, they are dissatisfied with the general attitude and the way injuries are handled by Vilda, and they believe their progress is being stymied by the lack of professionalism in their team management for a long time. Additionally, the Spanish athletes are speaking out against coaching methods that they believe are having a detrimental effect on their mental and emotional health in a number of ways.

Due to the dangerous training techniques used by current coach Jorge Vilda and his crew, 15 of Spain’s greatest women soccer players have begged not to be called up for this season’s tournaments anymore and according to the Royal Spanish Soccer Federation (RFEF), they got 15 letters from 15 players who said that the present coaching greatly impacts their welfare and that they would not play unless changes are made.

The RFEF said that the more than ten players were “resigning,” although the standout player for the Spanish squad, Alexia Putellas of FC Barcelona, stated that this was not the case and she further added, “Like we said in our private email, we’ve maintained, continue to maintain and will continue to maintain an unquestionable commitment to the Spanish national team.”

The players have voiced their displeasure with Vilda’s squad selection and training practices, as well as the locker room culture and injury management, however, if an individual who refuses to participate in national team duty may be subject to a suspension of two to five years from the RFEF.

Two American soccer superstars, Megan Rapinoe and Alex Morgan, have added their voices to the chorus of disapproval directed at the RFEF on the internet and then Rapinoe also said, “You got a 16th standing with you in America, This many players together like this is so powerful. We should all listen.”
