Since winning the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 40 by defeating Roman Reigns, Cody Rhodes has had a successful run as champion. However, many fans are not pleased with his reign because they feel Roman Reigns, CM Punk, or Drew McIntyre deserve the title more.
While WWE is pleased with Rhodes as their champion and the face of the company, the fans’ opinions are important. Now, it looks like WWE may change things up, and Rhodes could lose the championship in the next year.
Since beating Roman Reigns in April, Cody Rhodes has become one of WWE’s biggest stars and a top seller of merchandise. Even though some people worry about his long-term popularity, Rhodes continues to headline big matches and is expected to do the same at WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas.
But now, reports say that Cody might lose the title in 2025, depending on how WWE plans things. WrestleMania 41 is considered a pivotal event for this unexpected shift. There’s talk of possible opponents like CM Punk, Roman Reigns, John Cena, or even The Rock for Cody at this event.

While no official date has been set, it looks likely that these changes could happen next year. If Cody loses the title, it could serve as an excellent opportunity for him to transform into a villainous character, a role he excelled at in AEW.
Wrestling veteran thinks Cody Rhodes’ winning streak will continue
Bill Apter talked about Cody Rhodes’ successful title reign during a Live Q&A on Backstage Pass. He said Rhodes is the perfect champion—proud, charming, and great at selling merchandise—so it’s hard to imagine him losing the title soon.
Apter wasn’t sure if the title would change in 2025, but he mentioned Kevin Owens as a possible challenger. However, he hasn’t found anyone else who could take the title from Rhodes.
He said, “I don’t see anyone at this point in the company with them doing something to change the title. And if they would, if, if the Kevin Owens thing doesn’t happen, it’ll be Kevin Owens.”
