49ers reportedly interested in Aaron Rodgers as potential trade target if deal with the Jets fall through

The San Francisco 49ers are reportedly keeping a close eye on the ongoing trade negotiations between the Green Bay Packers and the New York Jets involving star quarterback Aaron Rodgers and can emerge as a potential suitor for reigning the NFL MVP.

Three weeks ago, the four-time MVP shared his intention to get included in the Jets roster for the upcoming season after returning from a darkness retreat, the Packers and the Jets yet could not reach any conclusion regarding the trade, leading to an uncertain future for the league’s elite player.

Can Aaron Rodgers end up playing for the San Francisco 49ers?

The Packers insider Craig Carton disclosed Tuesday on “The Carton Show” that the 49ers are secretly eyeing to acquire the Packers’ veteran QB if a potential contract with the Jets falls through.

Carton cited A-Rod might consider playing for the 49ers as the franchise currently doesn’t have a QB and hence, he can prove his worth once again on the spot.

“Aaron Rodgers would absolutely want to play for this franchise. The franchise is the San Francisco 49ers. They have Trey Lance coming off a broken ankle. They’ve got Brock Purdy, who’s not going to be throwing the ball until August or September. And they signed Sam Darnold. They do not have a quarterback right now. Maybe Trey becomes a stud, we don’t know”, he stated.

The FS1’s reporter later mentioned Aaron belongs to the area and frequently expressed eagerness to return to his hometown, hence, a potential trade can make his dreams come true.

“Aaron Rodgers is from the area, and has always said ‘I might want to go home one day.’ He also famously said ‘I want to screw it to San Francisco for not drafting me”, Carton added.

Two years ago the 49ers called the Packers if they want to trade their star QB to San Francisco the day before the draft, albeit the franchise quickly said ” No” as they didn’t want to trade Rodgers to another NFC team.

According to Over the Cap, the San Francisco team has just over $3 million cap in cap space, and they don’t have a first or second-round pick till 2024, yet the team might not halt back from acquiring the future Hall of Famer to bolster their position.

As the situation continues to unfold, football enthusiasts eagerly await further developments to see if the 49ers’ pursuit of Aaron Rodgers will come to fruition. The NFL landscape could be in for a seismic shift if the 49ers are successful in acquiring the talented quarterback, making for one of the most intriguing storylines of the offseason.

Stay tuned for updates as the situation develops.
