“I can’t wait”: Boxing star Shakur Stevenson claims he wants to fight vs Gervonta Davis

Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis stamped his authority as a lightweight yet again after defeating Ryan Garcia this past Saturday in the 7th round at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. After the fight Shakur Stevenson, another top lightweight boxer made sure to call out the winner for a mega showdown.

The finest lightweight matchup now that Ryan Garcia has been eliminated by “Tank” is Gervonta Davis vs. Shakur Stevenson. Stevenson holds a perfect 20-0 record and is coming off a convincing KO victory against Shuichiro Yoshino earlier this month. Ah-Shakur is insanely talented and has a strong boxing background. By taking on Stevenson, ‘Tank’ Davis would be throwing himself into the toughest test of his career by facing a significant increase in competition.

Devin Haney vs Gervonta Davis for the undisputed lightweight champion, is an intriguing matchup on paper, but it’s unlikely to materialize. Haney likely won’t fight again at 135 pounds as he faced major weight-cut issues while getting on scale for his fight against George Kambosos Jr last October. Haney will likely make his final appearance at 135lbs before moving up to 140lbs in his title defence against Vasily Lomachenko on May 20th.

Shakur Stevenson vs Gervonta Davis match-up

Olympic silver medalist Stevenson, who currently fights at 135 pounds, stepped up to the division after failing to make weight for his second-to-last fight against Robson Conceicao. For his 12-round, 130-pound championship fight against Conceicao on September 23 at Prudential Centre, he was officially weighed at 131 and a half pounds.

Shakur Stevenson vs Gervonta Davis

“Shakur and Gervonta have great ring IQ, but I feel Shakur is a defensive-minded fighter first, even though in his last fight, he showed a lot of offense in that match-up,” said former WBO super featherweight champion Jamel Herring. “Shakur is hard to hit, to begin with. It’s hard to land anything on him because he’s so technically skilled in that area. With someone like Gervonta Davis, you see, he can put you down with one shot. So it’s a really interesting match-up because you got a very big puncher in Gervonta Davis, but you’ve got a very skilled defensive fighter.”

One of the best boxing match-ups at lightweight would undoubtedly include Shakur Stevenson’s superior boxing abilities, accuracy, and developing power against Tank’s boxing acumen and one-punch knockout blasting abilities. After defeating Garcia, Davis claimed to be the face, while many may disagree with that as of now, a win against another massive name like Stevenson would definitely establish him as one of the faces of boxing.
