“There is no hurry for the future. United have been interested in Kim since he was in China, we only spoke but I repeat: there has been no concrete contact”, told Star News Korea. pic.twitter.com/gL2LLdoUke
He also revealed that United were interested in the player even before he joined Napoli.
“There is no rush for the future. United were interested in him when he was still in China, but we only ever chatted about that. I repeat, there has been no concrete contact. In any case he has to enrol for military service in June.”
Military service and future club
All South Korean men are required to serve in the military for a specific period of time, with no exemptions made. Kim, along with his South Korean teammates was allowed to restrain from full military service after they won the 2018 Asian Games. But the players still have to undertake a three week basic and reserve military training. Tottenham’s Son Heung-min also did the training back in 2020.
This will take place between June and July, thus Kim’s pre-season should be unaffected.
Kim Min Jae has been a standout performer for Napoli this season, helping them win their third-ever Serie A championship. His outstanding defensive performances have drawn the interest of other teams, who may want to sign him in the summer transfer window.
The Napoli defender has a €50 million release clause that will be activated for 15 days during the upcoming transfer window. Manchester United are reportedly prepared to make a €60 million deal to beat the other clubs and capture him next season. However, many other clubs are also interested to buy the defender.
Napoli could also see striker Victor Osimhein leave for a record fee.
Kim Min Jae and Napoli will now host Inter Milan in Seria A on Saturday. In the summer, it will be decided where the player decides to go or whether he stays.
