The 14-time Champions League winner began their new UCL campaign by hosting Union Berlin at the iconic Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday in a Group C fixture. Union Berlin, making their debut in the competition, played their very first Champions League match against the team that has won the competition the most times in history.

Real Madrid, despite their dominance of the game, found it challenging to break the deadlock, with Joselu and Rodrygo hitting the woodwork on numerous occasions, and sometimes luck was not on their side. As the 90th-minute mark passed, it seemed the points would be shared.
