Arrest warrant issued for ex-Chiefs LB Darron Lee following missed court date for domestic violence and assault charges

The NFL has a comprehensive personal conduct policy in place, and any player found guilty of domestic violence or assault can face severe disciplinary action, however, many football players are getting entangled with legal battles due to their off-field issues and the former New York Jets linebacker Darron Lee is one of the notorious list.

Lee, a former first-round draft pick of the 2016 NFL Draft, has found himself in legal trouble as an arrest warrant was issued against him following domestic violence and assault charges.

Why was the arrest warrant issued against Darron Lee?

Darron didn’t show up for a court appearance Monday, however, why the former linebacker was due in court is still unknown following the first two charges brought against him back in April.

The court records revealed that an arrest warrant had been issued for Lee for missing his scheduled appearance and his absence could put him in more trouble as he might even end up getting more charges once law enforcement catches up with him.

After being selected by Gang Green as the 20th overall in the 2016 NFL Draft, the key member of Ohio State’s 2014 national championship football team played in 40 games with the team and spent a season with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2019 and later played in two games for the Buffalo Bills in 2020.

What is the reason behind NFL LB Darron Lee’s arrest?

Lee was earlier charged with two counts of domestic violence and two counts of assault, per Franklin County Municipal Court records.

Reportedly, Dublin police were called to Kendall Ridge Loop on a domestic violence call after the football player punched a woman relative of his in his own residence.

Following Darron‘s child’s mother expressing her concerns about not feeling safe around him, the woman relative of the player reached his house and attempted to speak with him about his behavior, per an affidavit signed by Columbus police.

However, the ex-Chiefs star became angry and “kept screaming” before punching the woman in the head eight or nine times during the argument and later pushed her into a wall twice, albeit he initially told the woman had hit him first. She was later admitted to a nearby hospital for several injuries to her head and face.

The mother of the linebecker’s child alleged he “grabbed her by the neck and lifted her up”, swung her around and dropped her onto the ground” as well as he also threatened to kill the woman and her child, per court records. The 28-year-old’s bond was set at $20,000 for each case and he was ordered to maintain distance from the two alleged victims if he posts his bond.

As the search for Lee intensifies, the two victims, along with countless others affected by domestic violence, look to the justice system to provide a fair and just outcome regardless of the person’s background.
