Bam Adebayo spoke about the difficulties and the extreme scenarios players had to face in the 2020 NBA Bubble which was held amid the global coronavirus pandemic, at the Walt Disney World in Florida. The NBA Bubble comprised 22 teams, which was narrowed down to the two finalists, the Lakers and the Heat, of which Bam was a part.
The 2020 NBA Bubble was created to protect players, staff, and coaches in a confined environment from the coronavirus during the final few games of the 2019-2020 regular season and through the 2020 NBA Playoffs. Players lived their daily lives along with sporting routines in attentively monitored isolation.
Bam Adebayo on Lakers’ ‘hardest championship’ win
Bam Adebayo expressed his opinions on the 2020 NBA Bubble Championship where the Miami Heat faced the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA Finals. Along with his former teammate and Miami Heat legend, Udonis Haslem, he recollected his experiences in the Bubble in a very vivid manner.
While he let the listeners know the numerous challenges players and coaches faced during their time in the Bubble. The Heat center admitted that the championship the Lakers won in the Bubble was the ‘hardest championship’ ever considering the circumstances the players had to face during their stay at the restricted facility. Speaking on the Lakers victory, Bam said, “That was one of the hardest championships to win in my opinion.
Bam emphasized the lack of interaction and loneliness players and staff faced during their whopping 93 days in the environment. He also commented on strict regulations put in place for interaction between players and made clear that a players thoughts and emotions were all they had in the 2020 NBA Bubble.
IWhile the games in itself were hard-fought, it was more about the psychological and mental difficulties that the players faced which affected their performances on the court. The games were played in the absence of real fans which crucially impacted team morale’s and performance in close games leading players to lose hope and energy faster than they normally would.
Bam Adebayo claims Nikola Jokic is the hardest NBA player to defend
In the podcast with former Heat teammate, Udonis Haslem, Bam Adebayo gave his props and respect to Nikola Jokic, calling him the hardest player to guard in the NBA right now. Haslem credited Jokic’s unique stationary skillset calling it unreal to witness.
Appreciating Jokic’s ability to get legitimate fouls and his ability to score efficiently, Adebayo commented, “He doesn’t flop, and I ain’t saying like you know guys try to sell calls but other than that like he not trying to get 16-17 free throws, no he trying to get buckets!”
The Serbian power forward, who is currently one of the best players in the league, is averaging a near triple-double with 26.4 points per game, 10.6 rebounds per game, and 9.2 assists per game easily validating the pair’s review of the player. The two-time back-to-back NBA MVP currently sits in the Top 5 for each of the individual stat categories in his quest for another title and MVP distinction.
