Bayern Munich set to offload Sadio Mane and Joao Cancelo after lacklustre season so far

Bayern Munich is set to let go of both Sadio Mane and Joao Cancleo in the summer as they have not met the expectations of the club.

Bayern Munich has had a poor season so far. The club has had some poor performances that did not reflect the club’s vision for the future. Manager Thomas Tuchel also replaced Julian Nagelsmaan mid-season. They were knocked out of the DFB Pokal and the Champions League which was humiliating. They are currently first in the Bundesliga, though just one point ahead of Borussia Dortmund, with two final games remaining.

Moreover, now the club has decided to offload two players that they think are surplus to requirements. According to Sky Deutschland, both Sadio Mane and Joao Cancelo will have to leave the club this summer. Tuchel is also said to no longer trust these two players.

Why does Bayern want to let Sadio Mane leave?

Sadio Mane joined the club in the summer for a fee of 32 million euros. He has however failed to live up to the high expectations that he set during his successful time at Liverpool. The Senegal international has just 12 goals and 6 assists in only 37 appearances for the Bavarians. But the final straw is said to be an incident back in April.Sadio Mane

During the 3-0 Champions League quarter-final defeat to Manchester City, the striker was spotted arguing on the pitch with teammate Leroy Sane. When the two returned to the dressing room, they got into a fight, and Mane allegedly punched Sane in the face. The club fined and gave Mane a one-game suspension, which he has already completed.

It is said the club already decided at that moment to let him leave. They do not want the player to stay as they think it could have negative consequences in the dressing room.

Many Premier League clubs such as Newcastle, Manchester United, West Ham, and Brighton are said to consider buying the forward.

Why does Bayern want to let Joao Cancelo leave?

On transfer deadline day, Joao Cancelo finalized his loan move to the Bundesliga club from Manchester City. The versatile fullback has one goal and four assists in 17 league games for the German club.

Joao Cancelo is said to no longer return to Manchester City when his loan deal ends. The star was a pivotal part of City’s team but that ended when he reportedly argued with Pep Guardiola. The English club is now looking for possible suitors to part ways with the player.

Sadio Mane

The 28-year-old struggled to get a starting spot under Julian Nagelsmann but has now gotten more minutes under Thomas Tuchel. Bayern Munich has a €70 million option to buy Cancelo when his loan ends this summer, but they have publicly said that this price is too high.

The Bundesliga giants are still keen to keep him, with either an extension of the loan deal or a lower transfer price. But that may not be easy, as other clubs also want the talented player. And as such, the Portuguese fullback could also leave the club.

It remains to be seen in the summer when both players end up joining. Bayern could do a U-turn however and let both or one of them stay.
