Canelo Alvarez wins via unanimous decision vs John Ryder in his comeback bout to retain his world titles

Undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez did not disappoint his home crowd as he put on a terrific show against John Ryder. The atmosphere was electric as Saul entered the ring at the Akron Stadium. Speaking about the fight, Canelo had the upper hand throughout the twelve rounds and dominated the British boxer from start to finish.

Subsequently, all three judges scored the contest in favor of him and he won the fight via unanimous decision. The Mexican boxer tried his best to finish the fight as he landed many big bombs and even dropped John Ryder in the fifth round. However, Ryder got back on his feet and showed great heart. The British middleweight fighter traded powerful shots and gave Alvarez a tough time in the latter stages of the fight.

But it was too late for Ryder as Canelo dished out a lot of punishment in the first half of the fight. And it paid dividends for the undisputed champion as he started counterpunching the Brit. Despite John Ryder not being a big name, this is a big win for Canelo.  Because he made a comeback inside the ring after almost 8 months.

What’s next for Canelo Alvarez after his dominating win over John Ryder?

Canelo Alvarez has made a statement with this unanimous decision win over John Ryder that he is the best boxer in the super middleweight division. There aren’t many big names apart from David Benavidez that would intrigue Saul to stay in this weight class. It would be interesting to see what his next move will be.

The Mexican boxer revealed who he wants to fight next in the post-fight interview. After thanking the fans for their unconditional support, Canelo called out Bivol for a rematch. “Everybody knows we want Bivol. The rematch with Bivol. If that fight with Bivol don’t happen then we will see.” Canelo also added that the fight will take place in the same weight class. “Same rules, same terms.”

Rumors were speculating that Dmitry Bivol and Artur Beterbiev will fight for the undisputed titles. But with WBC not sanctioning the fight, we might see the Russian champion defending his belt against Canelo in a rematch.
