Cristiano Ronaldo interview: ‘City move was close but Sir Alex changed everything’ Manchester United’s superstar reveals he nearly joined rivals Manchester City last summer

Cristiano Ronaldo is a soccer legend who is currently busy with his national team and is supposed to feature in an international friendly against Nigeria tomorrow.

In a recent interview with Piers Morgan, Ronaldo spits out some unpleasant truths that created a huge buzz in the football media and predicted that his situation at Manchester United would change after the FIFA World Cup 2022.

In the first clip of the interview, CR7 stated that he sees Manchester United as a marketing club where investment in the club’s development is meager and that, as a result, the Reds will not win any trophies in the coming years.

Also stated by Ronaldo was his lack of respect for both current manager Erik ten Hag and former manager Ralf Ragnick as a coach.

Yesterday, the first part of the interview was streamed, in which Ronaldo talked about his last summer transfer from the Italian powerhouse Juventus. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner claimed that he was about to sign with Manchester City, United’s archrival. Still, he ultimately decided against it because of Sir Alex Ferguson’s intervention and his previous associations with Old Trafford.

“Well, honestly, it [moving to Manchester City] was close. They spoke a lot, and Guardiola said two weeks ago that they tried hard to have me. But, as you know, my history is in Manchester United. Your heart, you’re feeling the way you did before, and it made the difference. And, of course, as well, Sir Alex Ferguson. It was a conscious decision because the heart speaks loud in that moment.”

The management of Manchester United is pissed at this interview and its timing, as the Reds had just secured a last-minute dramatic victory against Fulham last Sunday. Still, they didn’t release any official statements regarding this issue but will do so very soon; besides, they are closely observing the issue as the last part of the interview is yet to be released.
