Dana White Reveals in UFC 274 Post-fight Conference ‘He Wouldn’t Mind Doing Islam Makhachev vs Charles Oliveira Next’ for UFC LW Title Fight

UFC President Dana White has revealed that he wants to make the Islam vs Oliveira fight after the performance by Charles at UFC 274! Dana said in the post-fight press conference that Islam vs Oliveira is the most interesting fight as opposed to Islam vs Beneil Dariush.

In the press conference, White praised the former lightweight champion Charles “Du Bronx” Oliveira for dismantling the challenger Justin Gaethje in just one round. Charles won the fight via rear-naked choke after dropping Justin with a straight right hand!

Islam Makhachev is the protege and team-mate of Khabib Nurmagomedov and has been on the rise in the UFC’s lightweight division. Islam has been on a 10 fight win streak and is currently the number 3 ranked lightweight in the world.

Islam has been touted to be the successor to Khabib and his legacy! Although similarly dominant, Islam does have a blemish on his record. In his pro career of 23 fights, he has one KO loss to Adriano Martins from back in 2015. But Islam hasn’t lost a fight since then and has been on a dominant run.

Even UFC commentator and podcast host Joe Rogan wants to see that fight, This was revealed by Dana White in the press conference. When a reporter asked Dana if he wanted to make the fight between Islam Makhachev and Beneil Dariush, the head honcho said “Joe Rogan stopped me backstage and told me not to make it”.

It seems that the fight to make for the vacant lightweight strap is the super fight between Oliveira and Makhachev. The fight is bound to be a grappling masterclass between the Jiu Jutsu and Combat Sambo masters!

Islam already tweeted out that he wants to face Charles in Abu Dhabi later this year. With the nod of the UFC President, it seems that the pair are destined to duke it out for the vacant lightweight strap.
