Dana White teases fans claiming Gilbert Burns might feature at UFC 288 after Charles Oliveira pulls out due to injury

Former welterweight title contender Gilbert Burns might try to make a quick comeback inside the octagon after he picked up a dominating unanimous decision win over Jorge Masvidal on April 8th in Miami at the UFC 287 PPV. UFC President Dana White hinted that Durinho may return at the UFC 288 PPV which will take place on May 6th.

Dana sat down for the UFC Kansas City post-event press conference and discussed scraping off the Charles Oliveira vs Beneil Dariush fight due to Do Bronx’s injury. While having a conversation, he said that “We’re working on it, we are working on it tonight. We will get together on Monday and work this up”

Thereafter the interviewer asked the UFC President whether it has something to do with Gilbert Burns as the Brazilian welterweight was active on Twitter during the UFC Kansas City event. “He’s been blowing me up all day too. Say probably,” said Dana. Burns retweeted this clip from the interview and captioned it “Still waiting #UFC288, Co-main where are the WW Top 5.”

As of now, the UFC has not officially announced a replacement for the Charles Oliveira vs Beneil Dariush that was scheduled to take place in the co-main event of UFC 288.

Who will Gilbert Burns face at UFC 288?

If Dana White and the promotion accept the request of Gilbert Burns to feature at UFC 288, who will he face? There aren’t a lot of fighters in the welterweight division who will accept a fight with less than a month left against a top contender like Durinho.

With that being said, Burns has also expressed his desire to fight someone in the top five. The best possible matchup according to this situation is Gilbert Burns vs Belal Muhammad. Because with Colby Covington getting a title shot and Kamaru Usman recovering from his rematch loss, this fight makes sense.

There is a high possibility that the UFC books this match as losing a big co-main event and not replacing it with a good enough matchup will create a big impact. Do let us know in the comments section your thoughts on this welterweight clash.
