Neymar Jr.’s stint at Paris Saint-Germain wasn’t exactly what it should have been. The Parisian club lashed out a record fee to bring the Brazilian superstar in with hopes of winning the coveted Champions League. However, that didn’t happen, and Neymar was heavily blamed for PSG’s failure in the UCL despite winning the Ligue 1 five times in his six years at the club.
Neymar has now parted ways with Les Parisiens and made a switch to Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal. His teammate, Lionel Messi, also didn’t have a prosperous stint at PSG, which ultimately drove a switch to Inter Miami. Both of these superstars have been subject to abuse from PSG fans, and recently, Neymar has dropped a truth bomb on how poorly the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner was treated during his time in Paris.
Neymar Jr. provides verdict on Lionel Messi’s treatment
After the club failed to win the 2022-23 season of the Champions League, fans got extremely aggressive towards Neymar and Messi. They even went as far as protesting in front of PSG headquarters and demanding that the players leave.
Lionel Messi was the first to make an exit to join Inter Miami. Neymar Jr. followed soon after and went to the Middle East, signing a contract with Al-Hilal. The player has now spoken about his and Messi’s time at PSG.
Neymar explained his time at PSG as “hell.” According to Marca, in an interview with Globo Esporte, he said:
“We lived through hell in Paris, we were there to give our best and be champions, to try to make history. That’s why we started playing together again. We got together there to make history. Unfortunately, we didn’t make it. He went to heaven with Argentina. I was very happy for him. But, in Paris, he lived through hell.”
Neymar Jr. drew curtains over his PSG chapter this summer
Neymar junior was brought to PSG to do what he did at Barcelona. The player was one of the most important players for the Spanish club, and PSG thought he would do great things for them. Things went well for the player in his first season in France but soon a series of injuries took his career downhill.
During his time at the club, he missed 102 games. He was not able to do much for his club in the Champions League and PSG became uninterested in the player. Despite having a contract till 2025 the French club decided to let go of the player.
Neymar Jr. himself was not happy playing for PSG since he was receiving a lot of hate from the fans. In the Summer transfer window, the player signed for Al-Hilal for a two-year contract potentially worth $300 million.
