The Catalan club won the La-Liga last season under the reign of one of their very own, Xavi Hernandez. After a brief hiatus, it seems like Barcelona is all set to haunt the clubs who are going to participate in the next season’s Champions League. Camp Nou is one of the most iconic football grounds in the world and is also the home of FC Barcelona and following its renovations talk, the Catalan Fans are thoroughly hooked.
With a capacity of north of 99,000, Camp Nou is adjudged to be the largest stadium in terms of capacity in Europe. In 2021, the club officially announced their plans to modernize its iconic home ground. The fans were taken aback when the pictures of the under-renovation Nou Camp were circulated on social media.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta provides an update on renovation work
The 61-year-old FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta has been in the limelight amid the hopeful homecoming of arguably the best player in the world, Lionel Messi. The Barcelona president was under immense scrutiny when the Argentine announced his against-the-odds move to David Beckham’s Inter Miami. With the construction underway since last month, Laporta along with several other board members visited the stadium for examining the progress.
The current Camp Nou stadium has been relatively untouched since its construction in the year 1957. Talking about the updates of the construction, Joan Laporta said “It is an impact, and the first sensation it generates is nostalgia.
But, after walking around and seeing the pace of the works, which are going well, it gives you the feeling of hope and joy because we are fulfilling a collective dream of the people of Barcelona.”
