“For sure. If he goes out there and beats Gilbert” Leon Edwards vows to give Jorge Masvidal a title shot if Gamebred wins at UFC 287

Leon Edwards declared that he will settle his score with Jorge Masvidal in a fight only if Masvidal wins his next bout against Gilbert Burns on April 8 in the co-main event of the upcoming UFC 287.

UFC 287: Pereira vs. Adesanya 2 features a highly anticipated welterweight bout between Masvidal and Burns. After suffering three consecutive defeats at the hands of Colby Covington and Kamaru Usman, Jorge Masvidal is ready and willing to regain his fine form.

The current welterweight champion, Edwards, made a recent appearance on The MMA Hour, where he discussed with host Ariel Helwani the terms under which he is willing to fight Masvidal.

“For sure. If he goes out there and beats Gilbert, I think that’s the fight to make. It’s been a long time, three, or four years brewing. Let’s get in there and settle it once and for all and go from there.” said Leon.

A fight between Rocky and Gamebred in the backstage area in 2019 resulted in a cut to Leon’s face from a punch thrown by Masvidal. Since then, Leon has repeatedly sought out a fight with Masvidal to settle the debate, but the two have never met because Masvidal was too preoccupied with his quest to defeat Nate Diaz and claim the BMF championship.

Leon believes now that he is the champion of the division, he can call the shots, and Masvidal has no choice but to accept his fight offer.

”He’s the hardest fight in the division. So I’m focused on him, get past him, and from there we’ll see who is next.” Edwards further added.

Leon’s attention is now fixed on his upcoming bout, which will be the third fight between him and Kamaru Usman inside the octagon. Currently tied at 1-1, Rocky and The Nigerian Nightmare will square off once more at UFC 286 to complete their trilogy.
