“I’d love for Leo Messi to return”: Barcelona manager Xavi wants Leo Messi back at Camp Nou

Amidst all the rumors of Leo Messi potentially eyeing a spectacular return to Barcelona, Xavi speaks out about his desire to see the Argentinian return to Camp Nou.

The 35 year old is one of the game’s all time greats. The current World Cup champion rose to fame during his time in Barcelona, where he broke numerous records during his 21 year stay at the club.

According to a recent tweet from Fabrizio Romano, Xavi reportedly spoke about his love for his former teammate. “I’d love for Leo Messi to return. It’s a topic we’re working on, but it doesn’t just depend on me,” Xavi said according to the tweet.

“It depends on Lionel’s happiness and whether he wants to return. It’s not the right time to speak about that — but I’d be the first one to be very happy”.

Barcelona Vice President also spoke about Leo Messi potentially coming back

FC Barcelona vice president Rafa Yuste has also made comments on the Barcelona legends potentially returning for another go.

“He and his family know how much we appreciate them,” Yuste said during a press event for the unveiling of the Barcelona Academy World Cup.

“I took part in the negotiations, which, unfortunately, didn’t end the way we wanted. It frustrates me that he couldn’t stay. I would love for him to return because of what he could represent, not only on a sporting level. These kinds of nice stories deserve happy endings. We are in contact with them.”

Leo Messi left Barcelona in August 2021 after the club was unable to meet his financial demands, and signed a two-year contract with Paris Saint-Germain with an option for a third year extension. The contract is set to expire in June, and according to numerous reports, Messi will not be extending his contract with the French club.

The seven times Ballon d’Or winner reportedly received an offer from Saudi club Al-Hilal that will make him the highest paid soccer professional ever. Such rumors make Messi’s decision to return to Barcelona only more complicated.

It’s the first time any official from the team has discussed the player’s comeback in public. It greatly increases the likelihood of Lionel Messi coming back to the club where he first became known as one of the greatest of all time.
