Islam Makhachev is not just ‘Ice cold’ in the mike it seems, in keeping to his Russian origins the Dagestani fighter has displayed extreme resilience to the winter weather by taking Ice baths out in the open. The fight against Alexander Volkanovski is coming up fast and the fans are getting hyped by the day.
Islam earned his shot at the lightweight title shortly after Gaethje lost to Oliveira and the entire division seemingly didn’t have any proper contender. Makhachev was expected to fight for the title eventually but a victory over a replacement fighter like Bobby Green did not help him resume much.
Islam was already struggling to get proper opponents but still managed to rack up wins against Drew Dober, Thiago Moises, and Dan ‘The Hangman’ Hooker. Finally, his fight against ‘Do Bronx’ was set up for October 22 at the Etihad arena in Dubai. Both Khabib and Makhachev started to hype up the fight by throwing light jabs at the Brazillian.
Finally, the fight took place and Makhachev won handily. Then the former and the current lightweight champ made up with the defeated fighter. But shortly into the post-fight interview, Makhachev called Alexander Volkanovski to the stage as the Australian was present at the venue as a backup fighter.
Now the Dagestani fighter went back to his trash-talking by calling Alex the ‘Short Guy’ and challenging the featherweight champ for a fight to decide the pound-for-pound number 1 status. Volk currently is the Number one ranked fighter in the p4p rankings with Makhachev holding second place.
The AKA prospect has been mocking the Aussie on his social media from time to time. Many are shocked at such behavior of the lightweight champ as he is usually a soft-spoken man. Those who understand the fighting game think that this is a ploy to attract more attention to this fight.
