“Josko Gvardiol gotta be worst signing”: Manchester City fans unleash criticism on ex-RB Leipzig star after shock Aston Villa defeat

Manchester City look to have lost the plot at the moment as they fail to win their fourth straight league game in a row. Aston Villa handed Man City their third league defeat of the season, thanks to a 74th-minute strike from Leon Bailey, in their 1-0 win over the champions. The Citizens fall five points behind Arsenal at the top after three draws and a defeat in the last four games.

Following Manchester City’s disappointing run of form, fans have turned their heads to analyze recent signing Josko Gvardiol’s contribution to the team. Gvardiol’s poor performance against Villa has left fans enraged, making many question the signing on social media platforms. Man City and Gvardiol need to return to their A-game as the Premier League approaches its business end.

Gvardiol faces fan backlash after City’s loss to Villa

Croatian defender Josko Gvardiol has found it difficult to settle in the league, failing to provide convincing displays during any of the games as of yet. And after Manchester City’s defeat against Aston Villa, Gvardiol would be looking for hiding places as the fans have come against him for his efforts during the game.

Gvardiol was dribbled past way too easily by Leon Bailey to score the only goal in the game, and it looked like the Croatian could have done a lot better defending him.

Fans took to X, formerly Twitter, to banter about Gvardiol being the “worst signing” of the season and they don’t get the “hype” around Gvardiol. A user wrote, “Gvardiol for £100m is genuinely abysmal”. Another user posted, “I can’t be the only one thinking Gvardiol is quietly going under the radar as a very average footballer as of now”.

Man City spent $97.4 million on Josko Gvardiol

Josko Gvardiol joined Manchester City from RB Leipzig for around €100m during the summer transfer window, making him the world’s costliest defender. Gvardiol had a stellar World Cup campaign, which was overshadowed by Messi dribbling past him for his City teammate Julian Alvarez’s goal against Croatia.

However, Gvardiol has not yet shown his impact on the team, and questions have started to pop up about his price tag. Gvardiol, Manchester City’s signing for the future, has been average, which has in a way contributed to City’s poor defensive record this season.

City now find themselves in a pickle, with their star striker Erling Haaland facing talk of punishment and looking shaky without Rodri. They desperately need to improve their form and make their new signings hit the ground running.
