Kamaru Usman sneakily shades NFL GOAT Tom Brady in Conor McGregor comeback discussion: “Don’t have 350-pound guys protecting us”

In a recent dialogue, Kamaru Usman delved into a discussion about the iconic Tom Brady, injecting a subtle note of contention. Although the QB is retired from the NFL, his name continues to be in the headlines, because of his post-retirement ventures and because the name of the GOAT can’t be separated from the NFL.

This time, Kamaru Usman took a jab at him. The former welterweight champion’s words unveiled a perspective that could be perceived as a calculated jab at the NFL legend.

Usman’s implicit jab at Tom Brady’s advantages

Usman subtly jabbed at Tom Brady’s advantages during a YouTube interview with Patrick Bet-David, focusing on Conor McGregor’s comeback.

Usman acknowledged McGregor’s struggle with returning to peak performance after a two-year hiatus. Co-host Sosnick brought up age in MMA, referencing Tom Brady’s endurance in football beyond 40.

Usman took a jab by highlighting the vast difference between MMA and football, emphasizing that fighters lack the protective wall of 350-pound players.

“[Age] definitely plays a factor. I mean, we’re not Tom Brady. We don’t have 350-pound guys protecting us and we’re just throwing a ball,” said Kamaru Usman.

He subtly suggested that, unlike Tom Brady, MMA fighters don’t benefit from the shield of massive players while engaging in their sport.

While acknowledging football’s difficulty, Usman implied that MMA is even more demanding, insinuating that fighters endure greater physical strain.

“Not to say that’s not hard. That’s extremely difficult… but we are literally breaking our bodies, all day, every day,” the former champion further added.

Usman provided insight into the intense physical preparation of MMA fighters, indirectly emphasizing the contrast with the perceived advantages in football.

Brady unveils major injury incurred during Bucs’ clash with Bills

Tom Brady, who adviced Bill Belichick, disclosed a significant injury he suffered during a clash between the Buccaneers and the Bills in 2021 to QB Josh Allen in his Let’s Go! podcast.

Both Tom Brady and Josh Allen, being former quarterbacks, engaged in a discussion on various aspects of playing the position. The seven-time Super Bowl champion praised Allen for his skills with the ball but expressed concern about potential harm, advising him to protect himself while running.

“You’re putting yourself in harm’s way. Not that he shouldn’t run, but when he does run, SLIDE, and make sure no one hits you because I don’t want to see him ever get hurt because he’s such a stud.”

During the conversation, Brady recounted a past instance where he separated his shoulder in a goal-line situation on a QB sneak against Allen’s Bills in 2020.

Allen, who idolized Brady growing up, demonstrated a passion and love for the game, incorporating nuances from Brady’s on-field character into his own play style. Indeed, Tom Brady had an exceptional NFL career. While people will continue criticizing him, the former QB knows his worth and is focusing on his post-retirement ventures.
