Lakers’ LeBron James’ compliment to Victor Wembanyama draws highly honest reaction from French sensation

Getting a compliment from LeBron James is quite difficult, and Victor Wembanyama might have just done some very extraterrestrial stuff to gain praise from the NBA living legend.

It’s not like Lebron doesn’t praise anyone or is immune to charms, but he holds a high standard of appreciation when impressed. and when he does that, he detonates a bombshell that shatters the media bubble.

The French athlete also reacted in an unexpected way and revealed his feelings towards the praises he received recently, especially from Lebron James.

What did LeBron James say about Victor Wembanyama?

In an earlier interview, the four-time NBA champion wasn’t joking or just showing formality for the young sensation. “We’re labeling like this unicorn thing—everybody’s been a unicorn over the last few years,” the 38-year-old said. “But he’s more like an alien—no one has seen anyone as tall as he is but as fluid and as graceful as he is on the floor.”

King James appears to be head over heels in love with the 19-year-old Frenchman’s athleticism on the hardwood. It may remind him of himself when he was 19 and was projected as the number one pick in the NBA draft, as Victor is now.

What did Victor Wembanyama say regarding LeBron James’ praise?

It appears the recent attention wasn’t much appreciated by the French athlete, let alone the high praise. However, he didn’t feel the same way when James talked about him, which might point out the similarity of the duo’s mentality.

“First of all, I’m really glad he said that because I didn’t like to be called a unicorn,” Wembanyama revealed. “I like it because it’s just something not from this world. I like being called an alien, yeah. It’s really what I’m working to be—something unique and original.”

Wembanyama started his professional career at French side Nanterre 92 in 2019 before being named to the LNB All-Star team for the first time in 2021. That year, he moved to LDLC ASVEL and won the LNB Pro A title for the first time, along with LNB All-Star and All-Star Game MVP.
