Manchester City spending continues with acquisition of Mateo Kovacic from Chelsea

Manchester City had an excellent last season, now they added a new troop to their squad in the form of Mateo Kovacic. The blue half of Manchester reach their final peak as they put their name in the Champions League trophy.

In the Champions League final on 11th June the citizens faced Italian heavyweight Inter Milan at Ataturk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul. In the second half, a blustering strike from their Spanish midfielder made them the European Champions for the first time. 

Winning that match they won the treble for the first time in their history. To continue this legacy citizens strengthen their squad by adding the Croatian star midfielder Mateo Kovacic.

 

Mateo Kovacic had an impoverished season with Chelsea and try to overcome it in the next season with the sky blues. Some top-class midfielders may exit from the club after having a successful season with the club, so Mateo Kovacic may become their top-choice midfielder next season.

Croatian converts to Manchester Blue from Chelsea blue

The Croatian midfielder will now wear sky blue instead of deep blue. Kovacic joined Chelsea in 2018 from Real Madrid. Since he spent a very memorable time with the deep blues. 

During his time with Chelsea, he won the Champions League in 2021 which made the club the second-time Champions of Europe. The Croatian usually plays as a holding midfielder for both his club and country.

In his five years of spell, he played 221 matches with the Blues where he scored 6 goals and provided 15 assists. The Croatian can play in different positions as per the requirement of the coach. 

Kovacic joins the current European champions with a 30 million euro price. He will receive 25 million euros as a guaranteed amount while 5 million euro will be as a performance-related amount.

The official announcement will be done by the club within a few days. Also, the medical exam will be conducted soon. 

2023 UCL winners sorts Ilkay Gundogan’s replacement

Ilkay Gundogan is very close to leaving Manchester City and the joining of Mateo Kovacic will work as a replacement for him. Pep Guardiola always created a hard-core midfield and he likes to play several passes before creating a defence-breaking attack.

The German attacking midfielder does the same thing for him. Gundogan playing for Manchester since 2016 after leaving Dortmund in 2016 summer. For the sky blues Gundogan played 304 matches and scored 60 goals in all competitions. 

The German midfielder is likely to join Barcelona after spending a remarkable season with citizens. The deal is not finalized yet on the other hand Gunners are also looking to sign this star midfielder. In Manchester City, he won some major trophies along with the Champions League and Premier League.
