Mason Mount agrees personal terms with Manchester United while reports suggest potential £60m transfer fee for the Englishman

Mason Mount is close to leaving Chelsea as he has reportedly agreed personal terms with Manchester United over a summer transfer. Mount’s future at Chelsea is unresolved since his contract with the club expires at the conclusion of next season.

Both parties were working on a contract extension since the start of the season, however, negotiations have since been stalled as both cannot agree on terms. The new rumored Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino wants Mount to stay. But it still depends on whether the club and player can reach an agreement.

Chelsea is also open to letting the midfielder leave as they are looking to rebuild the squad after a tough season. They have also let Mateo Kovacic discuss agreements with Manchester City over a summer transfer as well.

United in driver’s seat to sign Mason Mount with personal terms agreed

Among the various clubs that were interested in him, Manchester United has now basically bagged his transfer.

The Red Devil’s manager Erik Ten Haag wants to reinforce his midfield with dynamic players. He wants Mount to join as he appreciates the player due to his qualities such as his versatility, pressing ability, and athletic prowess. United is rising as a team and will also play Champions League next season which is also attractive to Mount.

According to The Daily Telegraph, after United and Chelsea met on the pitch last Thursday, talks over personal terms advanced very quickly. A summer transfer has been agreed on both United and the player’s side, with personal terms also not an issue anymore.

Mason Mount is also now confident of a summer exit and prefers United as he has already accepted personal terms with the club. Mount also appeared to say goodbye to the fans in Chelsea’s last game of the season against Newcastle.

Player’s exact valuation still not confirmed amid United’s takeover turmoil

Both Chelsea and United are yet to agree a transfer fee for the player. While Chelsea is said to want to let the player leave, they would still demand a fee around the range of €80 million.

However, they could lessen the fee, as Mount’s contract ends next summer and they don’t want to risk losing him for free. Ten Haag is also pushing the United’s representatives to get the deal done as he considers Mount a priority.

United also have a hurdle as they also need to sort out their own ownership issues. United is currently being sought out by two parties, Shiekh Jassim from Qatar and Britain’s own Sir Jim Ratcliffe. Both of them want to buy the club but United’s owners the Glazers are still contemplating who to sell to.

It is unclear when the takeover will happen. Until then, United may not sign anyone as the Glazers will not spend money on players if they will eventually sell the club. As such, Mount’s transfer also hangs on this issue.

Liverpool, Arsenal, and Bayern Munich are still interested in Mount and could still swoop in for a surprise transfer.
