Neymar Jr’s ankle surgery in Qatar “went very well” after PSG star’s potential season-ending injury

Despite being one of the most talented soccer players ever to step onto the field, Neymar Jr. has a notorious reputation for being prone to serious injuries. He has sustained numerous injuries to his ankle over the years, which makes it seem particularly prone to injury.

Fans are divided over the fact that he typically gets hurt in late February, which is more worrisome. He has somehow managed to sustain a comparable injury in a comparable period of time this year. After the most expensive player suffered a season-ending right ankle sprain in PSG’s 4-3 win against LOSC Lille on February 20, he was due for surgery in Doha, Qatar. 

The surgery took place on March 10. The 31-year-old Brazilian was being accompanied by the Brazilian national team’s doctor, Rodrigo Lasmar. According to the doctors, the surgery “went very well”. PSG has made a statement regarding Neymar’s injury status, stating, “The player will maintain from now on a protocol of rest and care.”

The Brazilian will not be back in training for at least 130 days, meaning he will not be available until the start of next season. Neymar’s current contract with PSG is only valid until 2025, and as of now, there are no speculations about a contract extension.

Neymar’s absence from the PSG squad has significantly impacted the Parisian side. It especially reflected on PSG’s exit from the Champions League, as they lost 2-0 to Bayern Munich in the 2nd leg of the UCL Round of 16 last Thursday.

Neymar is widely recognized as one of the best active soccer players in the world. In 2017, PSG paid $263 million to FC Barcelona to obtain his services, which is the most expensive transfer in the soccer market’s transfer history.

Since his PSG debut, Neymar has scored 118 goals in 173 appearances and won four Ligue 1 titles. In his debut season, he managed to win the Ligue 1 Player of the Year.  He is also one of the most popular sportspersons on social media, with over 206 million active followers on Instagram.
