NFL Trade Rumor: Surprise AFC teams named as landing spot for Raiders’ RB Josh Jacobs unless long-term contract extended

Rumors are that the Las Vegas Raiders’ star running back, Josh Jacobs could be on the move. Jacobs was given the franchise tag by the Raiders which prevented him from hitting the open market. But if the two parties fail to agree on a contract extension by July 16, the running back will play under the franchise tag for the 2023 season.

Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports recently mentioned several potential landing spots for Jacobs in the event of a trade. According to him, the potential teams are Arizona Cardinals, Seattle Seahawks, and Buffalo Bills. He also shared that the trade of Jacobs is possible if a long-term deal seems unlikely.

“Technically he’s locked in for 2023 under the franchise tag, but that doesn’t mean the Raiders wouldn’t field — or solicit — interest in the event a future long-term deal is unlikely.”

He also noted that the Raiders’ head coach, Josh McDaniels, comes from the New England Patriots system, which has a history of utilizing multiple running backs.

“Coach Josh McDaniels, remember, hails from the Patriots system that deploys multiple backs, even if he did lean heavily on Jacobs in 2022. And the veteran teased dissatisfaction with the current regime after Darren Waller’s exit this offseason. Moving the 25-year-old workhorse would instantly save Vegas $10M.”

The Potential Impact of Adding Josh Jacobs to the Buffalo Bills

The addition of Jacobs to the Buffalo Bills could be very beneficial for the team as the team has struggled to find a consistent rushing attack in recent years, with their last 1,000-yard rusher being LeSean McCoy in 2017. Their leading rusher in the 2022 season was Devin Singletary. But he has departed for the Houston Texans in free agency. The team currently has a void in the backfield.  Jacobs’ ability to take pressure off dual-threat quarterback Josh Allen and provide a reliable rushing option could greatly enhance the Bills’ offensive arsenal.

Josh Jacobs

Josh Jacobs proved to be an incredible player in the 2022 season. He demonstrated his exceptional skills as a workhorse running back. The running back led the league in rushing with an impressive 1,653 yards and scored 12 rushing touchdowns. He also contributed in the passing game with 53 receptions for a career-high 400 yards. No doubt all the teams must be eager to acquire Jacobs.

While trade rumors are often speculative and subject to various factors, the potential trade of Josh Jacobs to an AFC team would undoubtedly generate significant interest and excitement among football fans.
