Panthers star RB Christian McCaffrey traded to 49ers for draft picks

The 26-year-old running back, Christian McCaffrey, is a crown jewel that every NFL team wants to bag. After a decorated college career, he was the eighth pick for 2017 NFL draft. He was a star right away in the NFL, too. McCaffrey led the NFL in 2019 with 2,392 yards from scrimmage and 19 total touchdowns. He became one of the best all-around athlete for the RB position.

The San Francisco 49ers are having the last laugh as they got a deal with this star in the exchange of sending second, third and fourth-round picks in 2023 and a fifth-round pick in 2024 to the Carolina Panthers.

Although the deal did not come cheap, it is going to be fruitful for the 49ers. After Elijah Mitchell got injured in Week 1, the 49ers were short on running backs. Jeff Wilson Jr. did a good job of taking over for Mitchell, but McCaffrey will give the 49ers’ offense a whole new element.

Following the trade, McCaffery expressed his gratitude towards his well wishers and former team. His tweet reads, “I’m forever grateful for all of the people who have helped make these past 5 1/2 years so special for me, Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Carolina, I will always love you.”

The panthers have also thanked McCaffrey as they announced the trade on Thursday night.

The trade has opened the door to new opportunities for the player as he gets to be on a winning team for the first time since his rookie season in 2017 when Carolina went 11-5 and he returned to the Bay Area. It is safe to say that the deal creates a win-win situation for both the team and the player.
