French international Paul Pogba had been a beast of a player while he played for Manchester United and Juventus. Pogba is one of the most complete midfielders the football world has ever seen. However, the World Cup winner hasn’t been the same since the 2018 World Cup.
Brought by Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford, Pogba in 2016 made headlines as the most expensive player at that time. However, due to his discipline and attitude problem, he never reached his full potential. Paul Pogba has been a part of many controversies including the one with his brother.
Paul Pogba’s brother: Who is Mathias?
The football world is very much familiar with the Pogba Brothers, Mathias Pogba and Florentin Pogba who are twins while Paul Pogba is the youngest among them. All the three of them are professional footballers. Mathias Pogba may not achieve the same levels of success as his brother, but he is often remembered for his spell with Wrexham in EFL League two.
He started his career by joining the Youth academy alongside his twin brother Florentin, eventually signing his first professional contract for Quimper in 2009. Even though he was able to kick start his football career, he never reached the levels and played as a squad player for most of his football career.
After joining Wrexham, where he saw significant playing time, he eventually moved on after two years. The manager at Wrexham observed that Pogba’s transfer was aimed at reaching higher levels but ultimately fell short of expectations.
It was interesting to see that both of the elder brothers decided to play for the Guinea National Football team, while Paul Pogba opted to play for France. Mathias had also represented Guinea on the international stage, earning a total of 5 caps in his career.
When Paul Pogba’s brother was imprisoned for conspiring against him
It was quite a dramatic revelation as the whole football world learned about the Pogba brother’s feud as both the brothers have been involved in an ugly controversy which stirred shocks and intrigue among fans. Just after Paul signed again for Juventus, Paul Pogba’s lawyer on behalf of Paul Pogba, accused Mathias in a case of extortion.
He revealed that Paul has been a victim of an extortion plot which included his childhood friends as well his own brother Mathias. The gang also had threatened the French international with a rifle and demanded a massive amount of £11 million as a protection service. Paul Pogba also told the police that he has already given up £100,000 in order to “save time” when he was threatened while being on International Duty.
Just as the world was starting to move on from the accusations made by Paul Pogba against Mathias, the Guinea international revealed some video footage from his side, shedding light on his own revelations about Paul Pogba.
In the video, he alleged that Paul had been consulting an African witch and practicing African witchcraft. Fans were stunned when Mathias claimed that Paul had requested a spell to be cast on Mbappe, aiming to injure the French international. He further claimed that Paul had used witchcraft to “neutralize” Mbappe during their match against Manchester United in the Round of 16 of the Champions League in 2019.
As per CBS Sports, Mathias denies all the allegations over him, stating that Paul Pogba accused him in order to tarnish his reputation. He blamed Paul for leaving him claiming it led to his suffering and demise of others close to him.
The France national team coach also shared his opinion regarding this matter. He said, “It disgusts me to see this all playing out in public.” He blamed Paul for abandoning him, claiming that it resulted in his own suffering and the misfortune of others close to him.
The Pogba family saga later took a turn as Mathias Pogba was taken into custody in the case of extortion in September 2022. However, by December, Mathias’ lawyer revealed that Mathias has been released from the jail under certain conditions including restrictions on contacting Paul or his mother as well as being prohibited from leaving France.
This family feud will be one of the ugliest brawls in the football history. Football is a beautiful game which does not invite such controversies. However, sometimes things can spiral out of control.
